Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The Disney theme parks bring out the kid in us and sometimes that’s exactly what we need.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom, part of Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida, is one-part theme park, one-part carnival, one-part animal sanctuary and all parts fun.

This zoological park has a wide range of attractions, including thrill rides, animal encounters, interactive fossil games, exploration trails, spectacular shows and a safari through an African wildlife sanctuary. It’s everything you can expect from the entertainment geniuses at Disney.

During your stay, you can also visit Walt Disney World’s other epic theme parks or Universal Studios’ The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™, which is located only 30 minutes northeast. Drive an hour east to the Florida Space Coast to check out the Kennedy Space Center and other exciting places.

Out’n’About Treehouse Treesort

Give your family a new sense of adventure and offer new meaning to the phrase “go climb a tree.”

Located on 36 private acres in a serene Oregon valley, nestled next to the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, is the Out’n’About Treehouse Treesort, a family-friendly resort with wooden cabins perched in towering trees.

But this isn’t your neighbor’s backyard treehouse. Think Ewoks’ breathtaking treehouse village in “Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi,” but with modern luxuries.

Check out their website and you’ll find an excellent treesort video tour that showcases the brilliant carpentry, the interiors of the treehouses and lots of fun activities to partake in. These endeavors include horseback riding, more than a mile of ziplines, river rafting, arts and crafts, hiking, swimming in a natural pool and taking a ride on a 50-foot-high Tarzan swing.

Cheyenne Frontier Days

Yee-haw! Give your kids a taste of cowboy culture by bringing them to the world’s largest outdoor rodeo and Western festival. Since 1897, Cheyenne, Wyoming, has held its Frontier Day event, a 10-day celebration that draws crowds of Wild West enthusiasts from all over the world.

Attendees can watch professional bull riders, nine days of rodeo events, musical performances and parades with horse-drawn vehicles. More entertainment options include Old Frontier Town, Indian Village, a U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds Air Show, the Old West Museum, a daily carnival, a Western art show, Old West-style dining and others.

Aside from Frontier Days, Cheyenne also features a botanical garden; an array of museums; the Terry Bison Ranch, where your family can see a variety of animals, go horseback riding and even hand-feed bison; and The Bit-O-Wyo Horse Ranch, where your family can enjoy horseback trail rides, cowboy campfires and a unique cowboy-themed dinner show.

Bloomington, Minnesota

Spending your summer vacation in Minnesota’s fifth largest city might not sound too appealing at first, but hear us out. While the city of Bloomington might not ring any bells for people living outside of Minnesota, it is actually home to one of our country’s top tourist attractions: the world-famous Mall of America.

Inside the Mall of America, visitors will find more than 520 stores to shop ‘til they drop, but this mall isn’t just a mall. It’s a significant entertainment destination.

Nickelodeon Universe, the U.S.’ largest indoor theme park, is located inside the Bloomington mall and has 27 kid-friendly rides, as well as shopping, themed events and character appearances. After a fun-filled day of rides or shopping, be sure to visit the Sea Life Minnesota Aquarium, where patrons can view a wide variety of water creatures, snorkel with fish and feed sea rays.

The Mall of America also hosts the Crayola Experience + Store, American Girl Store, the LEGO Store, The Escape Game (it’s even cooler than it sounds), a flight simulation ride, mini golf and a luxury movie theatre.

Only a 20-minute drive from Bloomington, the Minnesota Zoo currently has a kangaroo, wallaby and emu exhibit. It’s also good to note that Bloomington’s average summer temperatures are often in the 80s, so this would still be a summer vacation where you can break out the shorts and sandals.

Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas

Traveling with children is often challenging, especially on long, overseas flights or when visiting another country. One of many benefits of traveling to The Bahamas is that it only takes about an hour and a half to fly to from Florida. Plus, who wouldn’t be elated beyond belief to be vacationing in The Bahamas?

The Atlantis, Paradise Island resort is a lavish, adventure-filled adaptation of the mythical city of Atlantis, which first opened in 1998, boasting magnificent architecture, the Caribbean’s largest casino and museum-quality art from across the world.

The primary attraction on the island is Aquaventure, a 141-acre water park with more than 18 water slides, a mile-long river rapids adventure, a quarter-mile lazy river loop, 11 swimming pools, a children’s water-play fort, 20 swimming areas and private cabanas.

Guests also enjoy Paradise Island’s five miles of pristine beaches and the largest open-air marine habitat in the world, which is made up of truly unique marine exhibits, including 14 lagoons, touch tank aquariums, as well as snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities.

You Could use a Vacation!

Whether it’s to spend time with loved ones, explore new places or just lay out and get a tan, the summer vacation is the epitome of a much-needed work break.

Family vacations are unique opportunities for bonding that can provide a much-needed relief from the stresses of day-to-day life. The memories are priceless-- and will be cherished by you and your loved ones for years to come.
