Nuvision Heroes: Celebrating the Generosity of Erma Hood
This month's Nuvision Heroes feature spotlights Erma Hood, a remarkable member of our Nuvision family who embodies the spirit of giving. Erma, an 81-year-old widow, recently won $2,000 in our Added Advantage Holiday Cash Giveaway. In an inspiring act of kindness, she chose to use her prize to purchase toys for our Toy Drive, directly impacting the lives of numerous children in our community.
Erma's story is one of selflessness and compassion. During a recent interview with Nuvision, she shared her motivations and experiences. "The minute you called me, I knew instantly that that money was not for me. It was for me to be able to use properly," Erma reflected. This profound sense of responsibility and her desire to ensure that every child experiences the joy of Christmas led her to donate her entire winnings to the children.
A Life of Service and Community Involvement
Erma moved to Alaska in 1963 and has since been an integral part of her community. She shared with us her love for the state and its people, her close-knit family, and her involvement in her late husband's business. Despite her personal challenges, including coping with the loss of her husband, Erma’s resilience and dedication to helping others remain unwavering.
Apart from her recent contribution to the toy drive, Erma has also supported other community initiatives. She mentioned her support for AWAIC (Abused Women's Aid in Crisis), an organization close to her heart. Additionally, she has been involved in supporting native groups through her business, Denali Graphics and Frame, by donating custom framing for auctions and fundraisers. These contributions over the years have made a significant impact on various community projects.
Inspiring Others
Erma hopes her actions will inspire others to contribute in any way they can. Her message is clear: “Just do what you can. If you get a chance to help out, do it.” She believes in seizing opportunities to make a difference and encourages others to do the same.
