The Top Southern California Community Events in August
Summer may be nearing its end, but it’s not over yet! Take advantage of these last free days with no obligations and no defined routine by heading to one of these fun events happening in our community.
Festival of the Butterflies
When: August 3rd, 2019 from 10 am – 4 pm
Where: Los Rios Park (31791 Los Rios St, San Juan Capistrano, CA)
Cost: Free
Learn about butterflies, take a garden walking tour, enjoy live music and food, and crafts and a petting zoo for the kids. This street fair is hosted by the Los Rios Historic District in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Los Rios Park and Garden Angels.
La Habra Corn Festival
When: August 2nd-4th, 2019
Where: Newport Beach Civic Green (100 Civic Center Dr, Newport Beach, CA)
Cost: Free
Started in 1947, the La Habra Corn Festival remains the only one of its kind in Southern California. Attendees will enjoy entertainment, a car show, food vendors, and one of the largest parades in Southern California. Each year, bands, floats, and marching groups trek down La Habra Blvd as 25,000 spectators line the street and watch. Guests of all ages will love this event.
2019 San Clemente Fiesta Music Festival
When: Aug 11th, 2019 from 9 am – 7 pm
Where: 100 & 200 blocks of Avenida Del Mar (San Clemente, CA)
Cost: Free admission
Spend the day participating in family fun activities at the San Clemente Fiesta Music Festival. There will be game booths, live entertainment, an assortment of food, a motorcycle show, and an arts and crafts exhibit. If you’re in the competitive spirit, you can also join one of the many contests--hula hooping, sub sandwich eating, bubble gum blowing, and pie-eating are among the activities offered. There’s certainly no shortage of things to do at this event.
Open House at the Marconi Automotive Museum
When: August 11th, 2019 from 8 am – 12 pm
Where: Marconi Automotive Museum (1302 Industrial Dr, Tustin, CA)
Cost: Free
It’s Sunday Funday at the Marconi Automotive Museum! In celebration of their 25th anniversary, the museum is hosting this fun event featuring music, food trucks games, raffles, and free admission. Guests can tour the exotic racecars, and even get posters they purchase signed by founder Dick Marconi. In addition to the festivities, the first 500 guests will receive a special giveaway.
11th Annual Lobsterfest
When: August 11th, 2019 from 2 pm – 7 pm
Where: El Centro/Lions Park (320 E Erna Ave, La Habra, CA)
Cost: $65 for general admission
Relax in the vast open grass field of the Civic Center and enjoy fresh Main lobster, flown in the morning of and prepared on-site. Dinner consists of not only lobster, but also NY strip steak, red potatoes, corn-on-the-cob, salads, and dessert. A portion of the proceeds will go towards local charities.
Burger n Beer Festival
When: August 16th, 2019 from 7 pm – 10 pm
Where: Downtown Santa Ana (307 North Spurgeon Street, Santa Ana, CA)
Cost: $39/ ticket
Spend the night with unlimited samples of more than 30 local craft beers, enjoying a grilled cheeseburger from In and Out, and listening to live music by The Burger Boys. There will also be special items like spiked lemonade and animal style IPA available to try.
Brea Fest
When: August 16th, 2019 from 6:30 pm – 10 pm
Where: Brea Civic & Cultural Center (1 Civic Center Circle, Brea, CA)
Cost: Free admission, food and beverage tickets available for $3
Enjoy art exhibitions, artist demonstrations, live performances, a craft market, and a variety of incredible food donated from over 30 area restaurants. For the younger attendees, there is “Kidsville,” an activity area that includes caricature art, craft projects, face painting, and popular kids’ foods.
Brick Fest Live LEGO® Fan Experience
When: August 24th-25th, 2019
Where: Pasadena Convention Center (300 E Green St, Pasadena, CA)
Cost: Tickets starting at $17.50
Head over to the Pasadena Convention Center for the ultimate experience for LEGO fans of all ages. Build a LEGO derby car, see life-sized and record-setting builds, play classic LEGO video games in the Brick Fest Gaming Arena, shop for rare sets, and experience even more imaginative fun!
Plum Fest
When: August 25th, 2019 from 2 pm – 6 pm
Where: Old World Huntington Beach (7561 Center Ave., #49, Huntington Beach, CA)
Cost: Free
Come out and celebrate with your friends and family. The Plum Fest features live music, carnival games, face painting, a BBQ kitchen, and of course, plum cakes and crepes! There will also be wiener dog races, one of the most popular attractions at Old World Huntington Beach.
19th Annual RMV Rodeo
When: August 24th-25th, 2019
Where: Rancho Mission Viejo Riding Park (27174 Ortega Hwy, San Juan Capistrano, CA)
Cost: $30/ adult, $10/ child (4-12), under 3 enter free
Witness the top contestants take on wild horses, bulls, and calves in events like bull riding, bareback riding, and steer wrestling as they compete for the opportunity to move on to the National Final Rodeo in Las Vegas. There are six events in total, all of which will keep you on the edge of your seat.
