California is a great place to find fun, fitness centered activities in the summer. Whether you're interested in watching a soccer game from the stands or getting in the on the action and participating in a 5K, you'll find something here:

Speedway Fair Derby

When: July 14th, 2019 at 7:30 pm
Where: OC Fair & Event Center (88 Fair Dr, Costa Mesa, CA)
Cost: $15-$17.50/ ticket

Get a front row seat to an action-packed display at this year’s Speedway Fair Derby. These specially modified motorcycles race around the dirt track, making tight turns without the use of brakes.  Tickets can be purchased here.

Intro Mountain Biking - Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park

When: July 21, 2019 from 8:30 – 10:30 am
Where: Aliso and Wood Canyons Ranger Headquarters (28373 Alicia Pkwy, Laguna Niguel, CA)
Cost: Free, $3/ parking fee per vehicle

Enjoy canyon views and the fresh air while learning the basics of mountain biking and trail etiquette from Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteer mountain bike trail assistants. This bike ride is 8-miles through uneven terrain, so come prepared with the necessary equipment. Those interested can register here.

2019 Vans US Open of Surfing

When: July 27th - August 4th, 2019
Where: Huntington Beach Pier (315 Pacific Coast Hwy, Huntington Beach, CA)
Cost: Free

Witness the world’s greatest talent in surfing, skateboarding, and BMX compete at one of the largest action sports festivals in the world, hosted right here in Orange County. Throughout the nine days, you’ll not only be able to watch the incredible skills of competitors, but you can participate in workshops, open skate sessions, movie premiers, and tour vendors and art installations. This event is free and open to the public. You won’t want to miss it!

Orange County Soccer Club 2019 Season

When: July 27th-August 9th, 2019
Where: Championships Soccer Stadium (8272 Great Park Boulevard Irvine, CA)
Cost: Tickets $7-$18

Join the Orange County Soccer Club as they kick off the 2019 season and work to defend their Western Conference Regular Season banner. Before the game, attendees can enjoy the fan zone, complete with a craft beer lounge, and food trucks. There’s even a kids’ zone for families with children. 

Extreme Rodeo

When: July 31st & August 2nd, 2019
Where: OC Fair & Event Center (88 Fair Dr, Costa Mesa, CA)
Cost: $15-$20/ ticket

This isn’t your average rodeo. Here, you’ll witness untamed animals performing in direct contact with humans. Some of the things you may witness are stunts like Ring of Fire, Toro Totter, and Bull Poker. If you’re looking for something a little more exciting, this could be perfect for you. Tickets can be purchased here.

Los Angeles Angels at Anaheim Stadium

When: Various dates throughout summer, check the schedule for home games
Where: Anaheim Stadium (2000 East Gene Autry Way, Anaheim, CA)
Cost: Tickets starting at $14

See the Los Angeles Angels play at their home stadium. The season lasts until September, so there is plenty of time to see a game. To find a game, check the schedule on their website.

After Work Fitness Hike on Paved Hicks Haul Road

When: Mondays & Wednesdays throughout the summer from 6:00 - 7:30 pm
Where: Irvine Ranch Open Space (13042 Old Myford Rd. Irvine, CA)
Cost: Free

Get fit while enjoying a panoramic view of Orange County and a beautiful sunset. On this hike, you’ll walk the paved Hicks Haul Road with a group of other fitness-focused people. At 3.5 miles, it generally takes an hour to finish but you may take it at own pace. Pre-registration is required to attend this event.  You may also want to check out the other events run by the OC Parks; there are various other fitness centered activities that run throughout the week.

Cypress Run

When: July 27th at 7:30 am
Where: Cypress Civic Center (5275 Orange Avenue, Cypress, CA)
Cost: Early registration $35, Late registration $45, Non-competitive walk $30

This last leg of the OC California Race Series is the perfect opportunity to push yourself. With the 5K run, 5K walk, and 10K run categories, you can choose the race suited to your skill level. The top three finishers in both male and female 10K categories will receive a cash prize. After the races, there will be a pancake breakfast and community festival.
