Pumping Gas for the Military

For the third year in a row, Nuvision sponsored gas giveaway events to honor military men and women on Memorial Day. This year’s celebration saw the biggest turnout yet, with two locations and a total of 1,000 veterans receiving 11,400 gallons of gas, surpassing the 3,000 gallons we gave away last year.

In addition to the gas giveaways in California and Wyoming, we also gave away more than 200 free $50 gas cards to active-duty and retired service members in our in Mesa, Arizona; Kent, Washington, and Tikahtnu, Alaska locations.

“Nuvision has long believed in supporting our military by honoring the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country,” said Tom Sweet, vice president of marketing for Nuvision. “Every year we honor their service by holding events just like this one to support the real American heroes, our veterans, and active-duty service members. It’s just a small token of appreciation to recognize everything they do to protect our freedoms.”

Line up of Cars

Veterans and their cars lined the street in anticipation of the event. Our team was busy from start to finish, pumping gas into cars, and thanking the drivers for their service to the country.

While our volunteers were hard at work helping the veterans, Sean Valentine from the MYFM 104.3 morning show set the mood with some music and ran a live broadcast from the Mobil gas station. It helped add to the enthusiasm already in the air.

In addition to a free tank of gas, active duty military and veterans were invited to enjoy a free carwash at the Xpress Car Wash down the block. We just couldn’t let them drive away without looking their best.

“This is really great what Nuvision is doing for the military, especially with the price of gas out here.” said one veteran. “I really appreciate everything Nuvision does to supports the military.”

Many others echoed the same sentiment. Everybody who came left not only with a tank full of gas, but also with a smile on their face.  To close out the day, Nuvision donated $1,000 to the GWC Veterans Resource Center that helps veterans returning from service transition back into civilian life.

Reaching military heroes in Cheyenne, Wyoming

Wyoming Gas Event

Despite the threat of a tornado, the entire Cheyenne Nuvision team, along with many other volunteers and local businesses, showed up at the gas giveaway ready to honor our veterans. Between 11am and 1 pm, over 600 cars passed through the Maverik Gas Station and received a total of 8,000 gallons of gas.

The entire place was packed. After receiving their free gas at the Maverik Gas Station 555 locals were treated to a free lunch by team members of both Nuvision and Mr. Jim’s Pizza. Following the gas giveaway, Paula Cooke of Dogs and Tags of Wyoming accepted a donation of $1,000 toward the cost of service dog training for a veteran with PTSD/TBI.

Despite the weather, team members and guests were full of energy and enjoyed themselves.

Veterans who already had received their fill of gas lingered a bit longer to enjoy music by local DJs Tommy T and Terry Michael from KRRR FM 104.9 and KRAN 103.3.

“I know this [event] doesn’t have to do with banking per se, but this is a good reflection of the company,” said a veteran when asked about what he thought of the event. "Thank you so much for your support of our U.S. military.”

The reactions in Cheyenne were similar to those in Huntington Beach: happy and grateful.

This is what it means to serve.

memorial day 2019

The gas giveaway is one of the many outreach projects we run throughout the year.

From our December toys for tots drive that provided over 100 toys to underprivileged children and the little things we do every month to support heroes in our community, to larger events like the housing forecasts, we’re always looking for ways to support our members and their communities.

This year was the first time Nuvision was able to offer Memorial Day giveaways in five different states, during the same weekend. We’re so inspired by this year’s success and can’t wait to plan more ways to honor our veterans in the future. The next event we have coming up is the freedom ride, a motorcycle ride to support our military and first responders. Come out and show your support by watching the riders and say thank you to the heroes as they roll by. To RSVP for the event and find out more, click here
