Top Orange County Community Events in May
Looking for something exciting to do this month? There are tons of free and low-cost events going on throughout the Orange County during May. From family gatherings to parades and festivals, here are some of the top events happening this month:
La Habra Citrus Fair
When: May 3-6, 2019
Where: 321 E. La Habra Blvd
Cost: Free
Come out to the citrus fair and experience citrus markets, live bands, and thrilling rides. There will be numerous events occurring throughout the week, from the Jr. Livestock show to the Bubble Parade. This event also includes Youth Expos, like the Robot Rally and Youth Floral Show, which showcase the talent and accomplishment of kids in our local schools. Visiting these expos is an excellent way for parents and others in the community to learn more about all the fantastic things happening in education.
Soka University 18th Annual International Festival
When: May 4th, 2019 10:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Where: Soka University
Cost: Free
The 2019 international festival is bursting with exciting cultural exhibits. Attendees can enjoy performances by a total of 500 musicians and dancers taking part in this year’s festivities, as well as a huge vendor area filled with food and handcrafted items by more than 250 local business owners. Families will find lots of activities to enjoy together--art exhibitions, international food, games, student displays, and even a bounce house for the kids.
Like Totally Music Festival
When: May 11, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Where: Huntington State Beach
Cost: $65 for general admission
Take a blast to the past during the Like Totally music festival with 80’s bands, celebrity impersonators, and an 80s themed costume contest. Relax on the sand and enjoy the performances, or grab a bite from the food trucks and a drink from their full bar. All ages are welcome, and children 10 and under are free.
Costa Mesa Speedway – Jack Milne Cup
When: May 11, 2019 – gates open at 5:30 p.m., qualifying is at 6 p.m., the first race is at 7:30 p.m.
Where: OC Fair & Event Center – Action Sports Arena
Cost: $20 general admission
Get a front row seat to one of the most exciting and unpredictable racing events in the nation. Costa Mesa Speedway’s arena has let thousands of people view the action from its comfortable seating since its start in 1969. This event features speedway, sidecar, and junior races, and is a fun place to bring the whole family.
Fifteenth Annual Battle of the Mariachis
When: May 18, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m
Where: Mission San Juan Capistrano, 26801 Ortega Hwy, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675
Cost: Non-member public general admission is $18 for adults, $9 for children
Spend the day outside listening to live performances by some of the best mariachi groups in Southern California. This event is sure to be loved by the whole family. Food from numerous excellent vendors is available for purchase.
25th Anniversary Muckenthaler Motor Car Festival
When: May 18 & 19, 2019
Where: 1201 W. Malvern Ave Fullerton CA, 92833
Cost: $5, kids 12 and under are free
The Muckenthaler Motor Car Festival is the oldest car show in Orange County. With countless classic vehicles spread across eight acres of lawns, it’s also the biggest. From hot rods to vintage travel trailers, you won’t want to miss all there is to see. Be sure to stop by, and bring the whole family!
28th Anaheim Children's Festival
When: May 18th, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Where: Pearson Park in Anaheim
Cost: Free
The Anaheim Children’s Festival brings art to the youngest member of our community, encouraging creativity and fun with opportunities to try a variety of art projects. Parents and kids alike can spend the day taking free art and dance lessons in the park, and browsing through over 50 activity booths. Throughout the day, you can even stop by one of the two stages for live entertainment.
Surfin' Sundays Concert Series 2019
When: May 25-26, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Where: Huntington Beach Pier Plaza
Cost: Free
Kick off the summer season with a fun concert at the Huntington Beach Pier. Bands will be playing surf music and rock throughout the day, so you can relax and enjoy your time outside. This event is free and happens monthly during the summer.
Scottish Fest USA
When: May 25-26, 2019 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
Where: OC Fair & Event Center
Cost: $23 for general admission, $5 for children 6-12
Immerse yourself Celtic culture during this family-friendly weekend full of entertainment and food. From the vendors selling authentic Scottish merchandise and food, to the live music from nearly 500 bagpipers and drummers, you’re sure to find something fun to do. If you’re looking for a little more, stop by to watch the sheep herding or Irish Step dancing.
61st Annual Garden Grove Strawberry Festival
When: May 24-27, 2019
Where: The Village Green in downtown Garden Grove, CA
Cost: Free
One thing is for sure: you won’t be bored at the Strawberry Festival. The festival offers rides, game booths, contests, and performances, among the other entertainment open to guests. There’s even a parade on Saturday morning, featuring bands, floats, classic cars, and celebrities.
