‘Tis the Season: Our Top 10 Holiday Events in Cheyenne
The weather outside may be frightful, but Christmas time is always delightful especially with a generous sprinkling of snow on the ground! If you have family coming in from out of town or just starting to get a bit of cabin fever, here are our top 10 Cheyenne holiday events sure to warm the spirits.
1. Holiday Afternoon Tea at the Nagle Warren Mansion
Run Time: 2 – 4 PM / Every Friday and Saturday until January 5th, 2019
Get your pinkies out and add a little touch of British luxury by celebrating a beloved tradition from right across the pond! This historical landmark is decked out in high Victorian style complete with a pianist playing an antique grand piano right in front of your eyes. Guests of any age will also enjoy a wide array of expertly brewed teas, fresh baked scones, sweets, and of course—tea sandwiches served on the finest china plates. Make sure to secure a reservation beforehand especially if you have a large party in tow!
Holiday afternoon tea is $23.95 per person plus tax and gratuity. First seating starts at 1:40 PM while the last seating starts at 3:40 PM, so head on over a bit earlier so you can relax, unwind, and enjoy a hot cup of tea on a fine winter day!
2. Holiday Light Tours by the Cheyenne Street Railway Trolley
Run Time: 6 PM and 8 PM nightly from December 12 – 24, 2018
Friends, family, and children will have a grand old time discovering the charms of Cheyenne right inside a classic street trolley! Trek through the city in comfort and take in all the illuminated light displays created by local businesses as well as your very own neighbors in one show-stopping spectacle you’ll love to go to time and time again. Tours start at 6 PM and 8 PM nightly and departs from Sears located at Frontier Mall on 1400 West Dell Range.
Don’t wait until the last minute though! Purchase tickets in advance on December 1st ($12 for adults/$6 for children) either at the Depot Lobby on 121 W. 15th Street or call (307) 778-3133 on Saturday (8 AM – 5 PM) or Sunday (9 AM – 3 PM) to buy over the phone with a credit/debit card.
3. Holiday Chari-Trees at The Lincoln Theater
Run Time: Daily from November 23 – December 8, 2018
What better way to ring in the season than with a classic tree decked with tinsel, ornaments, and lights galore? Sponsored by Thrivent Financial, The Lincoln Theater located right in Downtown Cheyenne will host 17 dazzling decorated Christmas trees created by local non-profit organizations all designed for a good cause! Interested spectators can participate in a silent auction to place bids on their tree of choice. All proceeds will go back into the participating non-profits for future local campaigns.
4. Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker at The Cheyenne Civic Center
Run Time: Doors open at 6 PM Thursday, December 6, 2018 with the show starting at 7 PM
Bring the magic of a time-honored classic right in front of your family’s eyes! Children of all ages will be awe-struck with the Moscow Ballet’s “Great Russian Nutcracker” production set to the timeless compositions of Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Life-sized dancing puppets plus vivid hues, a 60-foot growing Christmas tree, and a massive two-person Dove of Peace costume all are integrated into one jaw-dropping dance performance designed to spark the imagination!
This all-ages show has tickets starting at $20 to $68, but be sure to purchase them ahead of time! This is one event you’ll definitely don’t want to miss out on this season.
5. Annual Depot Museum Holiday Mart
Run Time: 10 AM – 5 PM/ Friday, December 8 – Saturday, December 9, 2018
Need to do a little holiday shopping? Swing by the Cheyenne Depot Holiday Mart and discover a wide range of awesome gift ideas created by local vendors! Find expertly crafted jewelry, special knick-knacks, and various artwork that’ll please even the most discerning person. Don’t forget to bring the kids in tow because Santa Claus is coming to town! Photo ops with old St. Nick will be available for both days, so make it a day out for the whole family.
6. Foot of the Rockies’ Christmas Classic 2018 5K Run
Run Time: 9 AM – 11 AM / Saturday, December 15, 2018
If you think you got the speed of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, well fasten your laces and stretch out your legs—it’s time to sweat it out with Santa. Runners can test their cardio stamina with Santa Claus for the men or Mrs. Claus for the women in one exhilarating 5K run that’ll leave anyone breathless! Prospective competitors at any fitness level start the 5K right at Lions Park and end at the Foot of the Rockies store for special prizes, food, and an awards ceremony for a job well done!

7. Holiday Magic by The Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra
Run Time: 7:30 PM / Saturday, December 15, 2018
Treat your senses to the sounds and sights of a whimsical joyous concert celebration at the Cheyenne Civic Center! The Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra will host a musical spectacle in partnership with local performers of all ages. Sing-along carolers, dancers from the En-Avant Dance studio, and the Cheyenne Chamber Singers will perform beloved Christmas tunes that’ll delight even the youngest audience members into the holiday spirit! In addition, children from the local All-City Children’s Chorus will put on an unforgettable performance designed to touch hearts all over the city.
Tickets can be purchased online and start at $10 per person and can go up to $45 for orchestra seats.
8. The Polar Express Pajama Party at the Cheyenne Civic Center
Run Time: Doors open at 2 PM Saturday, December 22, 2018 with the show starting at 3 PM
Take a trek to the North Pole right in the great indoors in one pajama party your kids won’t want to miss. Children can bring blankets, fuzzy slippers, and their favorite PJs to the Cheyenne Civic Center for a showing of “The Polar Express” animated film complete with endless servings of hot cocoa! This all-ages movie event is $5 for children 12 and under and $8 for adults/children over 12 years old for admission.
9. The Hemi Lighted Forest of Hope
Run Time: 6:30 – 8:30 PM / Now until January 1, 2019
Bring friends and family to a Cheyenne tradition steeped in holiday magic and a good cause all in one! The Hemi Lighted Forest of Hope celebrate the joy of life and hope in times of adversity, especially for children battling intractable epilepsy. Over 200,000 lights plus numerous trees are illuminated every year in honor of a child who went under radial brain surgery in order to live a normal life seizure free. Patrons can walk through the dazzling Christmas lights, view the indoor garden scale railroad, or even take a hay ride through the light displays complete with their choice of hot cocoa or apple cider!
This free event runs from 6:30 – 8:30 PM nightly with donations encouraged for The Hemispherectomy Foundation.
10. Ice on the Plaza
Run Time: Hours vary / Now until December 31, 2018
Perfect your figure 8 or glide on the ice right outside downtown Cheyenne this holiday season. This free event provides a massive ice skating rink complete with complimentary skate rentals for those who don’t have their own skating shoes. Whether you choose to ice skate in the day or at night with the Christmas lights illuminating the sky, it’s one unforgettable experience people of all ages will enjoy!
