Nuvision’s Commitment Financial Literacy: Essay Challenge Scholarship Program
Earlier in the year, Nuvision held its second annual Essay Challenge Scholarship Program. The Essay Challenge brought local high schools together in an attempt to educate the next generation about the importance of financial literacy. Students attended a financial literacy workshop where they learn the importance of developing good money management habits.
This year’s workshop included real-life advice on money management and achieving goals from a variety of professionals including two Northrup Grumman engineers, an executive from Northrup Grumman, a retired LAPD Police Captain, and former NFL players including Ron Brown who’s also an Olympic Gold Medalist. From there, students write an essay describing what they learned, why it is important and how they plan to apply it to their life. These essays are then put through a rigorous approval and nomination process involving school personnel, the contest’s Financial Ambassadors and finally, an online voting poll.
In April, Chantel Hung won Nuvision’s first place prize of $5,000 for its 2017 Essay Challenge Scholarship Program. Having earned an honorable mention scholarship in the previous year’s contest, Chantel, then a Schurr High School senior, was no stranger to the contest’s process.
Nuvision recently caught up with Chantel to ask her about life after high school and how she is applying to college life the money management skills she learned from the Essay Challenge. Chantel is studying neuroscience at currently University of California, Riverside and hopes to attend medical school to become a physician, specializing in either psychiatry or primary care. Chantel has not only set specific career goals but financial goals as well.
When asked about her experience with the contest, Chantel said, “I would strongly recommend Nuvision’s program to others in high school. It has played a huge role in ensuring I am off to a good start in college. My biggest takeaway from the Nuvision Essay Challenge Scholarship Program is that it’s never too soon to prepare for a sound financial future.”

In November, Nuvision will welcome schools from across Southern California to be part of next year’s scholarship essay contest. We look forward to another great year, and can’t wait to read next year’s essays.
