Protecting yourself has never been more important.

Fraud is no longer just an isolated event that affects a few people. The number of people that are falling victim to fraud every day has grown exponentially  —and the losses are adding up fast.

In 2024 alone, Americans reported losing more than $12.5 billion to fraud, a sharp jump from the year before. Even more concerning, scams are working more often. Nearly 4 in 10 fraud reports now involve actual financial loss, which means scammers are getting better at what they do.

Online crime is driving much of this. Internet-related scams accounted for over $16 billion in reported losses in 2025, with investment scams—especially those tied to cryptocurrency—leading the way. Older adults were hit hardest overall, losing billions.

What’s changed?

In today's fast-evolving digital world, fraudsters are weaponizing cutting-edge technology to make their schemes harder to spot and easier to believe:

  • AI and deepfakes are exploding in use, enabling voice cloning (where scammers mimic a loved one's voice with just seconds of audio) and realistic video impersonations to trick people into sending money urgently.
  • Reports highlight a surge in real-time deepfake attacks for impersonation scams, with 1 in 20 identity verification failures now linked to deepfakes in some analyses.
  • Common tactics include posing as government officials, banks, or even CEOs via phone, email, text, or video calls—often creating panic to bypass your better judgment.
  • Social media remains a major starting point for many scams, including fake investment opportunities and romance frauds that drain savings.

These trends are accelerating, with experts warning that AI-powered fraud could cause even greater damage in the coming years.
