Our commitment to serve our community: Nuvision hosts Toys for Tots toy drive
Every child dreams of waking up on Christmas morning to mountains of presents beneath the tree. Unfortunately, the parents of 15 million American children living in poverty don’t always have the means to make this happen. While the gift-giving spirit of the season can create wonderful opportunities for families to grow closer together, the stress parents feel to provide sometimes puts a damper on that joy.
Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks had these families in mind when he founded Toys for Tots in 1947. After realizing there were no toy drives in his town, he organized a team of Marines to gather toys for economically disadvantaged kids in their area. That first year, they collected 5,000 toys. To date, they’ve donated nearly 18 million toys to children across the country.
Nuvision proudly supports the military and works hard to serve the veterans in our community. But this commitment doesn’t just mean supporting them, it means supporting their goals too.
This season, we’re hosting our own Toys for Tots toy drive.
We, like the thousands of Marines, veterans, and volunteers who give their time for this cause each year, believe every child should be able to experience the thrill of unwrapping new toys on Christmas morning. By working with their organization, we have also made it our mission to help alleviate the financial strain the holidays can put on families.
From Monday, December 3rd to Friday, December 14th, Nuvision Credit Union will be partnering with the Seal Beach Sea Cadets for a two-week long campaign to gather toys for underserved children living in Orange County.
Whether it’s big or small, every toy we receive has the potential to make this Christmas special for a child.
You can make a difference.
Nuvision members, employees, and others in the community are encouraged to bring in new, unwrapped toys.
Toys may be dropped off at Nuvision’s main branch, located at 7812 Edinger Ave, Huntington Beach, CA 92647 from 9 AM - 6 PM Monday through Friday and 9 AM – 2 PM on Saturdays. If you can’t make it there, all other Orange County Nuvision branches will also serve as toy drop off centers, as well as our two Cheyenne branches. Just check with your local branch for hours and availability.
To thank you for your generosity, we’ll also be holding a free continental breakfast at the main branch on Saturday, December 8th from 9 AM to 11 AM. Every person who brings a toy to the specified location will receive a complimentary breakfast with their choice of coffee, tea, fruit, and pastries.
Our community is stronger when we work together.
Nuvision cares deeply about the people living in the communities it serves. We want to make this holiday season special for not only our members, but everybody. In fact, just last week we provided Thanksgiving dinners to 14 local military families.
There’s no better time of year to give back. By getting involved in this toy drive, you’ll be helping us in our mission to make our community better. Let’s make a difference together, one toy at a time.
