VETERANS DAY EVENTS: OUR THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO SERVE OUR COUNTRY

Nov 29, 2018, 08:18 AM by Nuvision Credit Union

The communities we serve are full of people hard working people who have sacrificed more than we can ever imagine securing the freedoms we often take for granted. Nuvision is committed to supporting our military and our veterans. Unfortunately, they often go without recognition—which is why we are continually looking for ways to honor them. Every year on Veterans Day, we like to take the opportunity to make sure they truly know how much we appreciate their service to our country.

This year, Nuvision hosted two events for our local military over Veterans Day.

Free Gas Giveaway in Huntington Beach, CA

In Orange County, we had the honor of giving away gas to over 200 local veterans and active military. We are thrilled we were able to help so many veterans, but we could not have done it without the incredible amount of support we received from the community. Our team of over 50 volunteers kept things running smoothly not only by filling up veteran’s gas tanks, but also by talking with them and sharing our gratitude.

iHeart Radio DJ Sean Valentine, host of the 104.3 MYFM morning show and winner of the ABC Radio Personality of the Year award, brought the event to life with his enthusiastic spirit and team of volunteers. He and his team helped energize our volunteers and really make the veterans feel appreciated.

Other community partners included Lt. Colonel Ken Graham & Ms. Rebecca Robinson, the Seal Beach Sea Cadets, community veteran volunteers from Golden West College, and members of the Refuge Church.

The Seal Beach Cadets have been a part of our Veterans Day events for over three years. To show our appreciation for their time they spend with the veterans of our community and the service they provide to our country, Nuvision presented them with a $2,500 check.

“Of all the events I have been a part of over the last ten years this has been the most rewarding and most memorable I have ever had,” said Rusty Fogle, a volunteer from Refuge Church. “To have that many veterans to parade by me and share for a brief moment of their time in the service of their country was all my pleasure.”

Free BBQ Lunch in Cheyenne, Wyoming

In Cheyenne, we served a barbeque lunch to nearly 200 guests at American Legion Post 6’s Veteran’s Day Ceremony. Our guests included Legion and VFW members, local veterans, community and state leadership, and friends and family of our veterans. It was wonderful serving our veterans alongside the Cheyenne community especially at such a big event.

Our commitment to serving veterans

Veterans Day is a great opportunity for communities to show their appreciation for the military, but it isn’t the only time of year we serve our veterans. At Nuvision, we show our appreciation year-round by regularly holding fundraisers and special events. In the past, we’ve raised thousands of dollars for organizations like Veterans Outreach OC, a group that provides affordable housing for single male veterans. We also donated Thanksgiving meals to several local military families.

We do this because we believe it’s important to give thanks and help those who have fought for our freedoms.
