COVID-19 Updates: Moving Forward Together

We’ve all been through a challenging couple of months. But together, we’ve pulled through and are preparing to come out stronger than ever. As we look back on what has happened, we wanted to share some of the things that we’ve been doing throughout the crisis to ensure our members, team members, and communities are able to make it through the pandemic.

Paycheck protection program

The COVID-19 crisis has been particularly hard for small business owners, many of whom have struggled to keep their doors open and their employees on the payroll. That’s why Nuvision has worked diligently to implement the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program.

We are proud to report that we have been able to secure funding for a number of our small business members, helping to ensure their businesses stay operational and employees receive much-needed income to make it through the crisis.

The program has been extremely successful, and our efforts to help small business owners was recently recognized by the Anchorage Daily News.

“I’m just thinking about making sure my employees can take care of their families, because they’re like a family to me,” said Anchorage business owner John Schwartz. He believes the loan application went smoothly because he went with Nuvision instead of one of the big banks. “It’s giving me peace of mind,” he said of the loan.

Many of our members have reached out to share their stories with us.

“I have multiple employees that have been out of work for the past 4-5 weeks and now I’m able to pay them for their lost time,” said Dr. Trevor Tew, owner of a chiropractic practice.

Jon Pucci, the owner of a commercial and residential cleaning service, told us, “Your professionalism, and sense of urgency enabled our company to pull through one of the toughest economic disasters we have ever faced.”

NuvisionCares

As we’ve been working to take care of our members, we’ve also been looking for ways to make a difference in the local community. Because this is such a difficult time for local businesses, particularly small restaurants, we started the NuvisionCares initiative.

The program helped small restaurants by paying them to supply meals to frontline medical workers, another group that deserves to be honored during this time.

Through the program, we were able to feed over 4,000 medical professionals and help keep 14 small restaurants in business. These businesses brought employees back who had been out of work for weeks, giving them much-needed paychecks at a time when income wasn’t certain.

We’re so grateful for what was accomplished through this program. It grew beyond what we could have expected, with Nuvision members and team members pitching in to keep it going.

Together, we raised an additional $6,000 to keep the program going beyond our original plan.

Online Banking and Member Resources

Our online banking options are always available, but through the crisis, we’ve created more resources to assist members who aren’t as familiar with them. Members are encouraged to download the mobile app, which allows you to:

  • View account information, balances, statements, and payment history
  • Manage bills by making a scheduled or immediate payment
  • Deposit a check
  • Transfer funds between Nuvision accounts
  • Make payments on your Nuvision loans

For more information on using online baking, check out this article from the blog

Along with maintaining online banking, we’ve given members who need it the opportunity to defer loans and receive mortgage assistance during these difficult times. Members who need help are welcome to call us at 800-444-6327 or visit our COVID-19 updates page.

Our team has also been keeping on top of possible fraud threats and diligently alerting members of scams as they arise.

Looking forward: How we’re maintaining a safe and secure banking experience

As many states around the country begin to loosen stay at home orders, we look forward to soon resuming life as usual. Of course, some things will be different, and we will continue to follow the guidelines recommended by the CDC, including using face masks and social distancing. As always, we will sustain a clean environment in our branches, ensuring that:

  • Branches are cleaned daily
  • Hand sanitizer is available
  • Employees who are sick can stay home with paid time off

One thing will never change—our commitment to serving you. We’ll continue to listen to your input and work to create the best possible banking experience, no matter the circumstances.

We are confident we will come out of this even stronger.

This isn’t the first challenging situation we’ve been through together, and it won’t be the last.

Nuvision was founded at the height of the Great Depression. At a time when over 9,000 banks were forced to close, the hardworking people of Douglas Aircraft had a vision for a better future. Through World War II, the Stagflation of the 1970s, the 1981 Economic Recession, the 1989 Savings and Loan Crisis, 9/11, and most recently, the 2008 Financial Crisis, we’ve always found a way to overcome challenges.

Eighty-five years after our unusual start, we’re stronger than ever. Our credit union has lasted through numerous trials, never losing sight of the members that make us so great. You are our mission. Through everything, we are dedicated to helping you with the life you build.
